Learning to Surf

I decided to look at a few other blogs while eating some lunch today to possibly see what some others were concentrating on today and I stumbled upon a blog that had a quote listed. “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” – Jon Kabat Zinn. As usual I just kept reading and then went back to doing my work and sure enough, my mind began to churn and combine my post earlier about the government and this quote.

Before we all blow up because you think I am saying to be okay with what is going on, Let me clearly state, ” DO NOT BE OKAY WITH WHAT IS GOING ON.”  I just thought about the quote and then put myself in other people’s shoes or boots for that matter. Take a minute and think about the stir this whole shutdown is causing here in the states. If you don’t know what I am talking about do me a favor and get out from under your rock and log into your Facebook account. I can safely assume you will see multiple post supporting the soldiers in this matter which I completely agree with and I myself have been clicking the “Like” button all morning.

With my mind wrapped around this entire fiasco I read this quote and it made me think about the soldiers that are walking under the hot sun wearing a heavy field pack protecting us right now. I think about them and in the midst of all this, those soldiers are exactly what this quote is talking about. “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” they are weathering this storm as we speak. None of the men and woman who are fighting, for not only my freedom but also the freedoms of the people who are causing these “waves” are not and will not drown in these waves, instead they will mount up and surf until these waves subside.

We have a choice to get up in the morning and the choice of what we do everyday, and the people meeting about this shutdown have the option to go get lunch or spend more time doing whatever it is they feel like doing. Our loved ones are over seas protecting our freedoms and surfing through these waves caused by our own internal wave machines with no choice but to do it. So my attempt to put somewhat of a positive light on the darkness here is just to say that these men and woman are heroes and they are showing the ability to surf the waves with pride and I have to take my hat off to them because I don’t know how long I could do that for a government that says they care for the troops but the actions are those of carelessness.

” You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf”
